Obama Should Shut All the Way Up About Charlie Kirk, Jimmy Kimmel, and Censorship
/“After years of complaining about cancel culture, the current administration has taken it to a new and dangerous level by routinely threatening regulatory action against media companies unless they muzzle or fire reporters and commentators it doesn’t like.”
Respectfully, former President Barack Obama can shut all the way up.
It’s incredible how infuriated the political Left is at Jimmy Kimmel’s firing at ABC, after he blatantly lied about the man who assassinated Charlie Kirk. “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”
After Kirk was killed, Obama tweeted that we didn’t know what motivated the killer, but we absolutely know now.
Tyler Robinson is a gay man, dating a gay man who identifies as a woman. He had become increasingly political, according to his family. Robinson said Charlie Kirk was filled with hate, and even inscribed left-wing clues on his bullets like, “Catch this, fascist.” Since Monday, we’ve learned more about Robinson, but Kimmel and his writers made a choice to mock MAGA for correctly characterizing Robinson while trying to pin him on the political right. While it is true that the FCC openly voiced issues with Kimmel, advertisers negatively responded to Kimmel’s words, and two large distributors—Sinclair and Nextar—decided they would not air Kimmel on their stations. Since Kimmel was only planning to double down, ABC had to make the best financial decision it could. After all, Jimmy Kimmel Live was only pulling in 1.77M viewers, less than Steven Colbert, who was just pushed out by CBS. Jimmy Kimmel was free to speak, and these companies are free to associate with whomever they please. This was a free market decision. It’s not as though ABC canceled a show with an average of 20 million viewers, like 2018’s Roseanne.
Speaking of Roseanne, she was quick to call out Obama. “Remember when you and your wife called Bob Iger to have me fired?” Roseanne Barr was fired from her hit show after tweeting about former Obama adviser Valarie Jarrett: “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.”
ABC said her tweet was “abhorrent, repugnant, and inconsistent with our values.” Disney President Bob Iger publicly justified her firing. “There was only one thing to do here, and that was the right thing.” He also called Jarrett before the show’s cancellation. Whether the Obamas personally made it happen is hearsay from claims the star made.
Roseanne Barr claimed she didn’t know Jarrett was black when she made the tweet, but she was condemned as a racist. Jimmy Kimmel did a bit on his show, suggesting that ABC bring back the show without Roseanne, and that’s precisely what they did. ABC killed off her character due to an opioid addiction.
Where were the tears shed for Roseanne’s cancellation for a tweet? Jimmy Kimmel has said far worse on air, like openly stating that doctors should prioritize vaccinated patients during the COVID pandemic and allow the unvaccinated to die. Obama retweeted a piece written by David French to condemn the firing, but French celebrated Roseanne’s cancellation like many other media personalities currently voicing outrage.
Obama is no free speech advocate, and he certainly weaponized his political powers. As the AP noted, “The Obama administration used the 1917 Espionage Act with unprecedented vigor, prosecuting more people under that law for leaking sensitive information to the public than all previous administrations combined. Obama’s Justice Department dug into confidential communications between news organizations and their sources as part of that effort.” Obama also spied on Fox News journalist James Rosen.
When our embassy was attacked in Benghazi, Obama’s administration tried to scapegoat a Youtuber to distract from his disastrous foreign policy and security failures. Then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton blamed the attack on an internet video.
The Obama Administration sued the Little Sisters of the Poor because Obama wanted them to violate their sincerely held religious beliefs concerning birth control. Hobby Lobby also had to go to the Supreme Court to defend its right not to provide abortifacient drugs. The man who lied about whether you could keep your doctor is pretending to be concerned about government overreach. The man who fined Americans for not having health insurance is allegedly concerned about government overreach.
Do you recall that the IRS was denying conservatives non-profit status under his watch? Do you recall Obama threatening to strip federal funding from schools if they didn’t allow trans-identifying males into female locker rooms? We’re supposed to believe this man cares about government involvement?
Barack Obama, who has disrespected black male voters, cares about free speech? His wife, Michelle, also said women weren’t listening to their own voices if they voted for Trump in 2016. They don’t respect political disagreements. They are liars. Obama made that clear to people who idolized him, like Joe Rogan, when he repeated the “very fine people” hoax on the 2024 campaign trail. They’re using David French, someone who compromised himself long ago, to cudgel conservatives. If only Obama were this vocal about exposing the Russia collusion hoax, started by Hillary Clinton (which he knew), to protect the integrity of the incoming president. But of course, Obama did spy on Trump’s campaign. Obama spied on a lot of Americans during his tenure.
It was free markets and freedom of association that ultimately led to the end of Jimmy Kimmel Live. And as far as the FCC and Chairman Brendan Carr, they should have stayed out of it. It muddies the waters, but there is a statute about public interest and policing broadcast TV when it comes to hoaxes regarding crimes. The FCC was established by FDR to regulate the airwaves. If Democrats want to get rid of it or rein it in, they can. But I assume they’d be against that. They love government power. They just hate when their opponents wield it. But even if Carr hadn’t said anything, conspiracies and outrage would still exist. People refuse to believe Stephen Colbert was rightfully canceled for being a money loser.
How many liberals, angry about Jimmy Kimmel, stood up for “non-essential” businesses that were forced to close down during the pandemic? How many of these people were furious with the 303 Creative LLC v Elenis ruling or Jack Phillips’ legal victories?
The Left is angry because Kimmel is one of them. You would think he’d have higher ratings based on the generated outrage. When it comes to Obama, he doesn’t miss an opportunity to hold his nose up at Americans, but he’s always been a hypocrite, a liar, and a lover of government control. So, if he’s really so upset, he can go purchase a Leftist Tear Tumbler and cry me a river.
Charlie Kirk’s killer believed he spread hate. If you’ve ever said men can’t become women, marriage is between a man and a woman, it’s wrong to take the lives of babies in the womb, or something along those lines, you’ve likely been accused of spreading “hate.”
